Who programs a permanent preset into a brand name keyboard and doesn't bother to listen to every note for consistency? That error doesn't exist on any other MX piano sound but this tells me that some of the programming was sloppy or hurried. The difference in the 2 sustains is pretty dramatic. Starting at that note, the sustain becomes unrealistically SHORT. I hear the ultra-long sustain on each note UNTIL I reach G3. If you have an MX, please try this and let me know: call up the "Rock Piano" preset and slowly play a C scale starting at C3 (the C above Middle C). That type of thing is subjective I guess but I DO have solid evidence that the MX piano programming was very careless. One of my complaints about the MX pianos is the unrealistic sustain, seems to go on forever. Unless my MX is bad, I have no explanation. So do I maybe have a bad MX? I have no other MX to compare it to, so I have no way to double check. When I got the MX however, the pianos were not good and sounded nowhere close to the demos, whereas the DS61 sounded exactly like the demos. here's a problem! I have decent studio monitors and the MX and DS pianos sounded equally wonderful on YouTube demos. Organs and pads are pretty much a toss-up. Both boards have acceptable Rhodes but the DS61 is a lot more authentic. With the DS61, I quickly found a great piano sound and now spend all of my time PLAYING it, not wanting to stop.

With the MX49, I spent most of my time trying to program a decent acoustic piano sound (after paying for a patch editor), never got it. Remember, I only care about the few sounds that I use. So right now I have both keyboards, at least until I can sell the MX49. I was using my old Roland XP-30 and just wanted to try something with better sounds. I play on stage regularly and primarily use pianos, electric pianos, organs and pads. Let me just say that I bought the MX first, played it on stage for a couple of months, was not happy with it and then bought the DS61, planning to send it back to Sweetwater if I didn't like it either. The reason why I own both keyboards is too much to explain. I currently own both a Yamaha MX49 and a Roland Juno-DS61, so here's my opinion FWIW.
